3) Front Control Panels - Glass Cutting,  Silk-screening

One of the hallmark of McIntosh equipments are their front glass panel.  The multistage process of making the front glass panels are extremely labor intensive.

Some models use glass panels as thick as 1/2 inch, and a special glass cutting machine utilizing a high pressure water jet is employed in the process.

NO…..

They don't deep fry potatoes here.

An actual demonstration of a 60,000 PSI water jet cutting a 1/2” thick piece of glass.

It can cut holes of any shape or size.

The speed at which the machine shoots out water, is faster than the speed of sound.

If allowed to shoot freely, it will shoot cross 7 football field in less than 2 seconds.

After the water jet shoots through the glass panel, it is cushioned by a heavy duty steel panel placed under 3 feet of water,

This is what the water jet does to the thick piece of steel panel……..

Finished glass panels, ready to be silk screened                            Glass panel being silk screened.  Multiple layers of paint are applied to the back of the glass panel, the lettering cannot be rubbed off with age.

Nothing comes out of McIntosh without being thoroughly inspected, over and over again. Here, we have a technician inspecting a control panel.  Notice this front panel belongs to a much older model.

So you want a front panel for your Marantz 7 ?   Sorry ………….you can’t get them cause they don't make ‘em no more.

But if you want a panel for your 1968 Mac C26 Preamp ? McIntosh can still make them for you.
